Hundreds of dead penguins wash up on Brazil beaches 20 Jul 10 -
About 500 of the birds, with their stomachs entirely empty, have been found on the shores of Sao Paulo state just in
the last 10 days. Scientists mention colder waters as a possible cause, or perhaps overfishing.

South America - Longest Cold Streak in 17 years 21 Jul 10 -
More than 200 deaths. Snow downs power lines. Record low temperatures.
During the month of July there have been seven days with temperatures below zero, which has not occurred since 1993, while yesterday brought a snowstorm in the heart of the city of Temuco, a phenomenon not seen since 1994. In Lonquimay, the weight of the snow cut transmission lines, so that 70% of the rural areas lost power.
Balmaceda airport was closed during the morning, but in the afternoon resumed its operations. Meanwhile, the Libertadores was closed to all types of vehicle due to heavy snowfall.

Record low temperatures in Southern Cone
The intense cold in Chile and Argentina has also affected other countries of South America, where several regions, set new records for low temperatures.
In Bolivia, temperatures plunged to a record -9°C in the city of Tarija, south of the country. There was also a big snowfall in the southeast of La Paz. Local media speak of up to 24 killed by low temperatures.
In Brazil, thermometers fell to -7.8°C in Urupema, in the southern state of Santa Catarina. While in Vilhena, in the Amazon state of Para, the mercury dropped to 7.6° C, the lowest since 1994.
At least nine people have died in Brazil due to the intense cold that has beaten the South during the last week.
Paraguayan police, meanwhile, said at least 12 people were victims of the polar wave, which has had temperatures of 3°C.
In Peru, an interior province of Tacna department was declared an emergency zone after it was scored -20°C.
Also, in the Peruvian jungle where temperatures normally register up to 35°C, the thermometer dropped to 9°C in Puerto Maldonado.

Ice Ice Baby 19 Jul 10 -
A striking picture showing how much northern hemisphere sea ice has increased in 3 years !
This (short) video from meteorologist Joe Bastardi shows how much Arctic sea ice has increased in the past three years. A chilling prospect for the upcoming winter and beyond ?!
As far as temperatures, although we had a very warm May,June and July here in the midwest/eastern US and certain other areas, (which often is the case following a long cold winter when increased ridging, or heights aloft, develops in mid latitudes resulting in above normal temperatures) it was cold in many parts of the West thru mid June. Wyoming still had snowstorms thru June 13th. Now we have record cold this July in South America and South Africa, with the first ever snow in parts of South America and ice extent well above normal in the Southern Hemisphere as well. Has the media forgotten this already ??  Now you have the rest of the story...

Could 2011 be the Year Without Summer ? 26 July 2010 -

It happened in 1816 and is bound to happen again.

In 1816 the northern hemisphere suffered through the year without summer.  During the previous winter the Mt Tambora volcano erupted.  Thousands froze to death due to the bitter cold the atmospheric ash clouds created.

Frost killed most of the early crops as late as May that year in North America.  Frost and snow killed even crops more in June.  Riots, arson, and looting flared up in Europe as common food stores became scarce.  Lake and river ice were recorded in Pennsylvania in July and August.  1816 also was a year of historic low solar activity as measured by 1816 era telescopes counting sunspots.

All the stars, including our own, are aligning for a repeat performance by Mother Nature.

Consider.

Even with 21st century telescopes we can see that the sun is only producing tiny sun specks and weak sunspots.

The northern hemisphere has experienced 3 years in a row of record breaking cold winters and snow fall. It snowed in all 50 States last winter. As in 1816, Canada and the rest of North America are experiencing record rainfalls this summer.  Much of the Canadian harvest has been lost due to flooding.  Some of the ski slopes in the western US reopened in July.  Today, South America is experiencing a brutally cold winter killing farmers along with their livestock.  It snowed in the Amazon.  For two years in a row it has snowed in Australia during summertime.

And Katla is well past due to blow her top.

July - Rainiest Month in Mexico History 31 Jul 10 -

It is incredible. The headline in Vanguardia says "July, The Rainiest Month in History."
http://www.vanguardia.com.mx/julioelmesmaslluviosodelahistoria-525974.html

The second paragraph states: "The director of the National Water Commission, Jose Luis Luege Tamargo, indicated that in agreement with the measurements and forecasts, this month; July, 2010 would be the rainiest in the whole history of Mexico."

This month has been WET with rivers and dams overflowing throughout the country;  roads and railways severely damaged, bridges washed out, tens of thousands of people displaced, homes destroyed or severely damaged, crops destroyed and on it goes ... massive water damage.

As mentioned in iceagenow.com, ice ages are all about large quantities of precipitation.

Pakistan flood Thousands trapped - More than 1500 dead 1 Aug 10 -
Entire villages washed away

The death toll in the devastating floods across Pakistan could be as high as 1,500, say officials. Rescue workers and 30,000 troops fanned out to areas that continued to be inaccessible due to widespread damage to roads and infrastructure.

Thousands of homes and roads were destroyed, and at least 45 bridges across the northwest were damaged.

Such flooding has not been seen since 1929 in the northwest, said Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the region's information minister.

"Tens of thousands of people are stranded and waiting for help," a senior official, who preferred not to be named, said.

The UN has said the floods have affected over one million people, though it didn't specify exactly what that meant.

Following an aerial survey of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, a spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority described the destruction as "massive". He said entire villages and grain storages had been washed away.

Buildings simply crumbled into the raging river in Kalam, a town in the northern part of the Swat Valley, Geo TV showed Saturday.

There were fears that a new monsoon system forecast for the next 24 hours could cause further flooding in other areas.

In neighboring eastern Afghanistan, floods have destroyed hundreds of homes and huge stretches of farmland in the past week, according to Matin Edrak, director of the Afghan government's disaster department.

Worst floods in Pakistan History 1 Aug 10 -
Pakistan's impoverished northwest has been wracked by the worst floods in the country's history, wiping out entire villages, including houses, shops, vehicles and crops, and leaving families clinging to the tops of collapsed houses in the hope of being rescued.
