Astronomical Influences Affect Climate More Than CO2, Say Experts [“no correlation at all with CO2”]
CNS News ^

CNSNews.com Astronomical Influences Affect Climate More Than CO2, Say Experts Wednesday, September 17, 2008 By Kevin Mooney, Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) – Warming and cooling cycles are more directly tied in with astronomical influences than they are with human-caused carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, some scientists now say.

Recent observations point to a strong link between “solar variability” – or fluctuations in the sun’s radiation – and climate change on Earth, while other research sees the sun as just one of many heavenly bodies affecting global warming in the later half of the 20th century.

Contrary to what has been stated in a “Summary for Policymakers” attached to the United Nation’s International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report -- and in subsequent press coverage of the report -- there is scant evidence in favor of human-caused global warming, according to geologists, astrophysicists, and climatologists who have released updated studies.

Frost One Month ahead of Schedule 18 Sept 08 -

An advancing cold front combined with a polar high pressure will bring on the first frost and freeze of the season for a significant part of the Northeast.

"A widespread frost like this one is coming about a week early in some areas." Autumn officially arrives next Monday. In parts of northern Pennsylvania and central New England this magnitude of frost may be nearly a month earlier than average.

Sub-freezing temperatures across upstate New York and northern New England will produce a widespread hard freeze. The Adirondacks in New York state could be the coldest spot in the Northeast. The overnight low in Saranac Lake, N.Y., could plunge to 18 degrees.

Scotland's barley crop in trouble? 18 Sep 08 -

Email from a reader in Scotland: " I can’t recall a year when by mid September almost none of the barley crop has been harvested. The crop has been flattened by the constant rain we have had all summer and now grass has begun to grow up through it.

Climate change chicanery
Less ice in the Arctic in 1893 than today

14 Sep 08 – Lewis Gordon Pugh tried to paddle a kayak to the Pole to demonstrate the vanishing Arctic ice. While still 600 miles short of his goal, he met with ice so thick that he had to turn back. Conveniently forgotten, is that in 1893 the Arctic was so ice-free that a Norwegian explorer was able to kayak above 82 degrees north, 100 miles nearer the Pole.

Tough to say.  Not sure how much Barley we import from Scotland, but if this trend continues there certainly could be an impact.

Cold August on Long Island
19 Sep 08 - Email from reader

August has always been the hottest month around here.  The month when you lie awake at night wishing for air conditioning if you didn't have it.  This year August was cold.  The days were perfect mild weather like we normally would get in May or June.  The nights were cold.  I know there are variations in weather and it is possible to get an occasional cool summer, but my strong intuition during those cold August nights was that this is the beginning of the big change.

Sincerely,
Tom Z.

New Zealand ski season extended, base near 16 feet

15 Sep 08 – “The Mt Ruapehu ski season in the central North Island
has been extended after some of the best snow falls on record.
“Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, operator of Mt Ruapehu ski area, announced today that it would extend the 2008 ski season by three weeks.

“Mt Ruapehu marketing manager Mike Smith said the continuous snowfalls from mid-July to late August were responsible for the extension.

"A few weeks ago we announced that Turoa had the biggest snow base ever recorded at any New Zealand ski area (455cm) and we are happy to say the base has since grown even further and currently stands at 488cm."

“Mr Smith said the base was heading towards an unheard of 5m metres (nearly 16 feet), with more snow predicted this week.

Excerpts: “Thirteen researchers, who work with the National Science Foundation's McMurdo Dry Valleys Long-term Ecological Research program, report in the Jan. 13 online edition of the journal Nature on both the cooling and its effects in the Dry Valleys, an a little larger than Rhode Island on the west coast of the Ross Sea.

Dry Valleys’ temperatures dropped an average of 1.23 degrees Fahrenheit per decade from 1986 to 2000, with the greatest cooling during the December through February Antarctic summer, they report.

“Complicating the problem is the fact that all of Antarctica isn't cooling. The Antarctic Peninsula, which looks on maps like an arm reaching from the continent to grab South America, has been growing warmer. In fact, reports in recent years that Antarctica is warming have been based on data from the Peninsula.”

Did you catch that? Read it again. “Reports in recent years that
Antarctica is warming have been based on data from the Peninsula.”  Again, the Peninsula is that tiny slither of land stretching towards South America.

We’ve been getting distorted data !

The Antarctic Ice Sheet is twice as big as the continental United States.
The Antarctic Peninsula is only a small portion of that.

If the entire United States were cooling but Oregon was warming, would
you trust someone who told you that “the United States is warming”?

That's the kind of misleading information that I've been yelling about.

Thank you Jack Williams for telling the truth.

Yes it looks like it.  Either that or the information was distorted intentionally because of typical media bias.  They find anything they can to lie and bias the info to support the GW agenda.  I remember several years ago there was an early season heatwave in Dallas,TX, where it reached 100 F.  Right away, their local headlines were screaming about GW.  Just ludicrous............
